The Symphony of Island Paradise

I awaken every morning to a symphony of tweets, melodies, and chirping of an array of birds, whose sounds beckon me to greet the new day. Those who know me well would be shocked to find me up at first light. I am a night owl, a person who shakes hand with the moon and plucks stars from the veil of darkness. My magical Cinderella hour seems to be 9 pm, when I transform into a fusion of energy. I awaken myself from the lulls of the day bustling with technology, disconnected from each other, our concrete jungles mask who we really are. Yet here on the Island of Paradise, I seek the rays of light, wanting to sit upon a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean and shake hands with the sun. I have already come to appreciate the beauty of Hawaiian time; which allows me to feel the miles of white sand beneath my toes, while revelling in the pristine rain forests that beckon me. This is only our third day, yet I feel like I have come 'home' to an endless bounty of things that I could only dream about. Of all the photographs I took of flowers yesterday, one of them struck me in a profound way. The Parrot's Beak Heliconia is an admirable blend of vibrance and foilage. A suspension of color, this striking beauty, is a reflection of Hawaii. The shape reminds me of the pounding surf against the cliffsides, while the interwining tapestry of yellow and reddish pink embodies the hues of Lei's, that grace this paradise. As I embark on a new day, with endless discoveries, I look forward to the history I will be immersed in. The roots of Hawaii connecting me with its past, beckons me to come play and learn.
